Wanderers Rugby Club was established in 1886 by young players who moved to the burgeoning gold-mining camp that would become Johannesburg. Over 140 years later, the club stands as the oldest rugby institution in the city — and one of its most enduring.

"You'll see kids on the sideline, old boys at the bar, and players in between. That's the club." Today, Wanderers fields six teams — 1st XV through to U19, and a Ladies XV — with over 140 active players competing across the Gauteng Lions Rugby Union.
